Abstract
The paper presents experimental tests on typical Baltic sea-shoresand along Klaipėda. Natural sand was analyzed under laboratoryconditions following two different test procedures for soilcompression applying a universal oedometer and simple shear testdevice. The conducted analysis was concentrated on the influenceof the applied contact between soil and porous stone. First, thesoil compression test using the contact pressure of ~10.0 kPawas done, which guaranties the absolute contact between soiland porous stone. The applied maximum vertical load reaches400.0 kPa under the speed of the vertical stress ramp of 400.0kPa/min. The second test procedure was done with referenceto the same physical properties of soil and the type of loading. When laboratory testing is done adopting the second testprocedure, the contact between soil and porous stone is appliedintroducing the soil sample. In this case, the vertical stress ofthe initial contact on the top of the sample does not exceed 1.0kPa. A comparison of the results obtained from two testing procedureshas disclosed different compression characters of soil. For investigation purposes, the equipment and infrastructure ofthe Civil Engineering Research Center of Vilnius GediminasTechnical University was employed.
