The Conception of National Identity in Contemporary Lithuanian Architecture

Julija Reklaitė

Abstract

The article suggests the conception of national identity in interdisciplinary content to deduce parallels in architectural theory. Identity is analyzed from the perspectives of time (retrospective and perspective points of view) and personality (inner and outer) as well as from a local-global point of view. It is a part of extensive research on national identity discourses upon contemporary Lithuanian architecture. Though the problem of identity is a pressing issue, the forms of expressing it in architecture still remain facile. Therefore, the article explores the reasons of the current situation.
