Abstract

Storm water runoff management in urban areas is becoming increasingly oriented to the use of best management practices for countering the effect of urban growth. The quantity of discharged storm water runoff is essential parameter for the environmental impact assessment. Analysing the period of eight years (2000–2007) in Vilnius city the rainiest year was 2006. The amount of storm water runoff was approximately 3 million m3 in 2006. The total amount of generated storm water runoff was estimated using hydro meteorological and cartographical data according the multiplication of precipitation and drainage area method. In 2006 the rainiest month was August and total amount of storm water runoff was approximately 720 thousand m3.
